The issue of whether song covers/remixes can be used in Bollywood is coming to light today. A case has been filed against the producers of Baadshaho, starring Ajay Devgn.
The song in question: Keh Du Tumhe, sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle which has been remixed and put into the film.
A few days ago, a single judge bench restrained Baadshaho from being released with the song Keh Doon Tumhe after producers of the four-decade-old classic Deewar alleged breach of copyrights over its music and lyrics which, they claim, they continue to hold. Immediately an appeal was filed to lift the stay on the song in Baadshaho, set for a September 1 release.
Justice K R Shriram had, on August 22, heard both songs and found the music and lyrics similar of both the films. The new song has added new lyrics in the last verse apart from two new singers, he noted.
